What are you doing for Presidents' Day?

For the Week of February 20, 2022

This Week in Peachtree Corners

Before we dive into this week’s newsletter, please read the following apology from our editor:

To all the 3-year-olds in my son’s preschool class, I’m sorry. I spent so much time ragging on those delicious conversation heart candies last week that I forgot to buy his Valentine’s until Sunday. Due to karma (and supply chain issues), the shelves were completely empty. Except for one thing: conversation heart candies.

I’m sorry you received these “Valentine’s.” It was my fault. Please do not beat my kid up on the playground.

Oh, wait. I forgot. You can’t beat him up on the playground because there is no recess because there is no school right now.

God forbid an entire week passes before there’s another holiday or <insert season> break.

School is out for winter break and Presidents’ Day. Yes, it is plural and possessive. Apparently someone in 1971 thought every single President–past, present, and future–deserved to be included. #woke

There’s nothing on the calendar for Monday. Probably because it’s a Monday. But if you’re looking for ways to honor Presidents and celebrate the holiday, I have an idea:

Chop down a cherry tree. Any cherry tree will do. Yours, your neighbor’s, mine–it doesn’t matter. And don’t stop at one. The more, the merrier.

It’s a great outdoor activity the whole family can enjoy. Who cares if the story about George Washington is real or fake? The underlying message is still true: cherry trees need to go.

They bloom early, delighting our eyes and getting us in the mood for spring. Then the blooms fall off two weeks later, leaving just the leaves. Which fall off themselves in, like, JUNE. Why am I picking up leaves from a tree that looks dead in JUNE?

Hit me up for my address if you decide to “celebrate.”

Friday, February 18th

Well this is awkward. There’s an Arbor Day celebration in Norcross at 10:00am, two months ahead of the actual holiday. Someone plant a few extra trees for me, please. 😬

Thursday, February 24th

Check out Kettlerock Brewing and their new event, Paint and Pint. The price includes paint supplies and a beer. Anyone who shows up impersonating Bob Ross gets a second pint on the house.

Saturday, February 26th

Anderby Brewing is hosting an art market put on by Sudnat Studios from 12:00pm-6:00pm. Eat tacos, drink beverages, and buy local art. Those are all good things. I have nothing clever to add.

Then head north to another local favorite, Six Bridges Brewing, for their event, “Bowls and Beers.” And I know what you’re thinking, but I don’t know the answer. All I know is they will have “hand-crafted bowls for sale from local artists.” They don’t specify what types of bowls. This isn’t Colorado, so maybe the details are intentionally vague.

I have one more bone to pick. This one is with Wordle: Just what in the Sam Hill is “agora” anyway?

I’m a self-proclaimed (though completely self-taught and unverifiable) master of American English. But Tuesday’s Wordle broke me. I was on my knees in a dark closet typing random letters. Just hoping to get lucky.

Then I found out everyone else I know got a different word: “aroma.” You know, an actual word we use in America.

If only I’d refreshed my browser. I’m still salty.

See ya next week!
