What do bike races and the Talking Heads have in common?

They're both (kinda) happening this week! Here's what's happening around town for the week of April 23, 2023.

April 21, 2023

Good morning. And happy Friday!

Did you procrastinate on your taxes and have to file an extension? Again?

Yeah. Me, neither.

I’m just waiting for the day when Elon stops blowing up $3 billion rockets and decides to pay my taxes instead. Unless he promises there will be no taxes on Mars.

Busy week ahead (if you want it to be). Let’s get to it!

Upcoming Events

Saturday, April 22nd

Saturday is Earth Day. And (probably) to celebrate, Peachtree Corners is hosting a Shredding and Electronics Recycling event at City Hall. (On a side note, throwing that “and” in there really changes things. I’d cancel everything else on my calendar and pack a cooler to watch them shred some electronics.)

Later that evening, Kettlerock Brewing has live music from Yesterday Calling. It looks like their set list covers 60 years, so I’m sure your “yesterday” is covered.

Tuesday, April 25th

Beginning this coming Tuesday, The Forum is hosting a kids’ event called “Little Peaches.” Or it could be called “Forum Friends.” Or both. I don’t know. But it’s from 4-6 pm on the last Tuesday of every month. This month’s version has crafts, face painting, bubbles, games, and–most importantly–SNACKS. Lots of snacks.

Wednesday, April 26th

On Wednesday, professional cyclists from around the world will be racing in our own backyard at the Curiosity Lab Criterium Cycling Race. But it’s not just for the pros–bring the whole family for food trucks, exhibits, and even a kids’ bike race in front of City Hall. Better grease up those training wheels.

Thursday, April 27th

The Forum is throwing a groundbreaking celebration to kick off the property’s redevelopment. I don’t know if the celebration itself will be groundbreaking. But, they are celebrating breaking ground. They’ll have food and drinks available from Forum restaurants, a cotton candy cart, a DJ, and one complimentary glass of champagne for those of age. I wonder how they’re tracking that. 🤔

Friday, April 28th

Borrow your dad’s old suit jacket and head one zip code over to From the Earth Brewing for a real party. Same as it Ever Was, a Talking Heads tribute, takes the outdoor stage at 8:00 pm. And we do not joke about Talking Heads in this newsletter.

Saturday, April 29th

If alternative/art rock isn’t your thing, then From the Earth has you covered on Saturday as well. On night two of their weekend throwdown, they’re hosting TRIBUTE – A Celebration of The Allman Brothers, along with Harvest Moon, paying homage to Neil Young.

May I offer you a GIF?

I figure there’s no better way to sign off.

Plus, David Byrne left us with a plethora of dance moves (and outfits) to be celebrated, not replicated. At least by me.

Have a great weekend!
