This Week in Peachtree Corners: August and HOA Hacks

For the Week of August 1, 2021

.

Hello, PTC! And hello, August.

As far as months go, I’m kind of neutral on August. So I’m going to brainstorm a quick list of pros and cons to see if I can commit to a stronger opinion.

Pros:

  • Kids go back to school (guaranteed childcare)

  • It’s still summer (the pool is still open)

Cons:

  • Kids go back to school (traffic gets worse)

  • It’s still summer (and it is H-O-T)

So, yeah. I expected the list to be a little longer. And a little more diverse. Since the pros and cons are two sides of the same coin, I’m still 50-50 on August.

I took statistics.

HOA Hacks

Even Nextdoor has been a little quiet lately. I blame August.

But I did manage to dig up this little gem from a few weeks back. Let’s call it HOA Hacks.

Summary: Someone’s HOA sent them a violation notice because one of their plants was dead and brown. So they spray painted it green. Genius!

If you guessed the comments devolved into a polite discussion (argument) featuring people in HOA neighborhoods versus those in non-HOA neighborhoods about things completely unrelated to spray paint and dead bushes, you win!

PTC Weekly is just as neutral on HOAs as we are on August and anything else remotely controversial.

But we are NOT neutral on R.E.M. We’re ready to rock!

Peachtree Corners Events

Here’s what’s happening in and around Peachtree Corners. Check out the calendar for a full list of events.

Friday, July 30th

There’s a Block Party on Main. I assume that’s Main Street. Very creative, Duluth!

Saturday, July 31st

Six Bridges Brewing is hosting a cornhole tournament at 1:00pm. I’ve heard a few people call this game “bags” lately. Again, very creative. Do you guys live on Main Street?

And of course Dead Letter Office, the R.E.M. tribute band, takes the stage at the Town Green. No matter how many times I’ve heard It’s the End of the World as We Know It, I still feel like Chris Farley and David Spade in Tommy Boy if I try to sing along. You’re welcome for the link and the memory.

Sunday, August 1st

If there’s one way to make bingo hip, it’s to mix in a little beer and music. From the Earth Brewing hosts music bingo every other Sunday. It’s a game of zero skill. You can do this.

Tuesday, August 3rd

Check out Comedy at the Fox. Well, not The Fox. It’s at Social Fox Brewing in Norcross. I have no idea who the comedians are. If someone at Social Fox reads this newsletter and needs to fill some time slots, I’m available.

Friday, August 6th

Norcross is next up in the concert department. The next installment in their Summer Concert Series features the band A1A. Spoiler alert: This is NOT a Vanilla Ice tribute, as I first suspected. It’s a Jimmy Buffett tribute band. Which is good because they should be able to play more than two songs.

Saturday, August 7th

Flicks on the (screen on the) Green returns this week with Thor. It’s a Marvel Comics superhero movie. I had to Google it. Don’t laugh. I did see Deadpool, though. Doubt they’ll ever show that one at the Town Green.

Last but not least, The Red Clay Music Foundry is located on (you guessed it) Main Street in Duluth. And next Saturday they’re hosting Forever Abbey Road. There should be no confusion about whose songs they’ll be playing.

This week’s newsletter was a struggle! But I’m glad I powered through it.

I blame August.

See you guys right back here in your inbox next week!

(Which will still be August.)
