What's Happening in Peachtree Corners
For the Week of July 11, 2021
Happy Thursday! I feel like I was just here.
That’s the good thing about observing a holiday on a Monday: a short workweek.
Well, that and NOT WORKING ON A MONDAY.
In another bit of good news, our readership grew by 50% since last week’s issue. That means the word is getting out in Peachtree Corners! Or it could be that I forgot to connect one of the signup forms to the Mailchimp account so a bunch of subscribers were in digital purgatory.
Either way, welcome! If you want to catch up on any Pulitzer-quality writing you may have missed, check out the archives.
It feels like this is a recovery week from July 4th. But there’s still a lot going on.
Let’s get to it!
Let the Holidays Continue
Last week we highlighted National Independent Beer Run Day. And that was fine because several local breweries were offering discounts. As far as “made-up-for-marketing” holidays go, that one was a win-win.
Since this is a slow week (and I couldn’t think of anything else clever to write about), I thought I’d see what’s on the docket for ridiculous holidays this week. These are my favorites.
July 11th – All American Pet Photo Day
Can’t wait to see more pictures of your dog on Instagram. Seriously.
July 14th – National Nude Day
Check your local laws to make sure you don’t end up in jail for “celebrating.”
July 17th – Yellow Pig Day
Apparently this has something to do with math and the number 17. Not sure how yellow pigs got involved.
For more complete ridiculousness, this site lists all of these “holidays.” But at least now I know I can get a free slurpee on National Free Slurpee Day.
Moving on!
This Week’s Events
Friday, July 9th
Check out the party band No Limits at the Norcross Summer Concert Series.
Saturday, July 10th
It’s last call for the Fermentation Fit Camp w/ Eat The Frog Fitness at Six Bridges Brewing.
Tools for Schools is collecting school supplies for Gwinnett kids in need. Check out the link to find a list of items needed.
And check out the next local act to hit the Town Green. Sawgrass Blues Band is from just down the street in Roswell. No tickets required!
Sunday, July 11th
Everything’s gonna be alright as former global sensation Shawn Mullins performs at Red Clay Music Foundry in Duluth.
National sensation? Local sensation?
Whatever. For like 3 weeks in 1998 he had a #1 hit.
Friday, July 16th
Josh Daniel’s Grateful Band takes the stage in the parking lot at From the Earth Brewing. If you’ve never been to one of these outdoor shows, they’re a lot of fun!
I’m also sensing a theme with Grateful Dead tribute bands at this place.
Saturday, July 17th
Moe’s Original BBQ in Peachtree Corners is throwing a Low Country Boil from 1:00-5:00pm. They also have live music from Ralph Roddenberry. However, I don’t have a link for anything other than that Facebook photo. (If anyone knows Moe, let him know I’ll show him how to create Facebook events in exchange for a Bushwacker. And speaking of Bushwackers, this photo says they now sell them to go! Which should be a major announcement on its own! Moe, give me a call.)
Sports on the Screen returns to the Town Green at 5:00pm. Go cheer on Atlanta United as they take on New England.
If That’s Not Enough
Check out the calendar for a full list of live music at our local watering holes!
Now I need to figure out how to grow our subscribers by 100%.
Anyone want to share PTC Weekly on your neighborhood’s Nextdoor page? So I don’t have to sign up for endless alerts about people threatening other people for not picking up their dog’s doodie?
Just go to this page, copy the URL, and paste it.
I’ll share the results next week (along with any snarky comments).
See ya back here next week!
