What's Happening in Peachtree Corners

For the Week of July 18, 2021

Happy Nextdoor Day!

Yes, I just made this up. I realize we’re competing with National Be a Dork Day and National Gummi Worm Day, but I like our chances. There is NO WAY either of those can compete with America’s favorite passive-aggressive neighborhood dispute resolution platform.

As much as it terrifies me, Nextdoor helped us more than double our number of subscribers last week. One loyal reader shared a link to PTC Weekly and, well, just check this out:

In honor of our new favorite growth channel, we’re excited (read: terrified) to introduce a new section in the newsletter: The Nextdoor Post of the Week.

Won’t You Be My (Nextdoor) Neighbor?

This week’s featured Nextdoor post is titled “Fox and friend” and involves some sort of canine species on a rooftop:

I’m not sure what I’d do if I saw foxes on my roof. Probably take a picture, like this.

With the Hooch being nearby, fox sightings are not uncommon in Peachtree Corners. But on the roof of a house? That’s a first (for me).

You can imagine the comments. People want to know how they got up there. If they can get down. If they are chasing rodents or making themselves at home in the attic.

But serious comments are boring. These are not:

  • “Animals are like humans, they feel safer and usually are if they have the higher ground.” I must not be human because I’m absolutely terrified of climbing on my roof.

  • “I came here looking for a juicy political rant about Fox news. So disappointed that it’s about foxes that can climb.” For real. Please use Nextdoor for its intended purpose: political trolling.

  • “That’s a great sign of a healthy eco system [sic].” Is this tongue-in-cheek or a jab at urban sprawl?

  • “Those are Coyotes, not Foxes.” Well that escalated quickly.

We’ll do our best to find a new, entertaining Nextdoor post each week. But it can be hard to find a diamond in the rough (or cesspool). So if you see a real doozy, just reply to any of our emails or submit a link here.

And pray this doesn’t turn into an absolute disaster.

Now onto this week’s lineup of events!

This Week’s Events

Saturday, July 17th

The Moe’s BBQ in Peachtree Corners is hosting a Low Country Boil with live music from 1:00-5:00pm. And that photo is still the only record of this event I can find. Someone drop in and make sure it’s still happening (and pick me up a bushwacker to go).

As soon as that’s over, cross the street (safely) and cheer on the Atlanta United on the big screen. Sports on the Screen returns to the Town Green at 5:00pm.

If you want something more low-key, head to Betty Mauldin Park in Norcross. Jazz in the Alley returns with an artist I’ve never heard of but who is probably incredible. Still waiting for them to announce Kenny G.

Sunday, July 18th

If you missed it last week, you get a do-over. Shawn Mullins shimmers on stage again at Red Clay Music Foundry this Sunday in Duluth.

Monday, July 19th

What’s better than pickleball? Pickleball with mimosas. Monday mornings are also better with mimosas. You can check all those boxes at Jones Bridge Swim and Tennis this coming Monday at 8:30am. Check out the flyer for Pickles and Oranges (or Pickleball and Mimosas) for all the info!

Thursday, July 22nd

Tytan Pictures is hosting another FREE photo workshop: 10 Steps to Elevate Your Photography. Without the use of Instagram filters. (Yes I’ve already made this joke. Please reference our exponential growth chart above.)

Friday, July 23rd

Pretty excited about this one. Christ the King Lutheran Church is hosting the Peachtree Farm Stand from 3:00-6:00pm. Drop in and pick up some fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers. You’ll have the added pleasure of supporting their nonprofit which provides jobs to people with disabilities.

Saturday, July 24th

And if you can’t make it on Friday afternoon, the Peachtree Farm Stand is back in force on Saturday morning at 9:00am. This is going on for the next few weekends!

The Atlanta United are taking over the big screen for the second week in a row. At the Town Green, of course. 3:30pm sharp.

Don’t Forget

There’s plenty of other live music, yoga, and trivia going on around the PTC. Check out the calendar for more!

“Now I need to figure out how to grow our subscribers by 100%." - Me, in this exact same spot in the newsletter last week

Just quoting myself here to see if it happens again this week. Because I have a weird obsession with making charts in Google Sheets.

I hope to dazzle y’all with a new one next week!

You stay classy, Peachtree Corners.
