Sports, Art, and English Grammar

For the Week of October 17, 2021

This Week in Peachtree Corners

I will not miss a week. I will not miss a week. I will not miss a week.

This week I’m going with the stream of consciousness approach. No edits; just writing. So bare with me.

Or is it “bear?” It has to be bare, right? There’s no way it’s spelled the same way as the animal. But why would it be spelled the same as the other word for naked? Or the bare essentials? Or is it bear essentials?

WHY IS ENGLISH SO HARD?!

Sorry. If you made it this far without unsubscribing, thank you. I’ll do better.

I also want to welcome all the new subscribers and followers from last week. My network is completely tapped out, so that means one of you lovely readers shared a link somewhere. Whoever you are, feel free to do it again!

Now let’s see if we can make this week’s list of events just as entertaining as last week’s. This is the cross I choose to bear.

Bare.

Whatever.

Peachtree Corners Events

Here’s what’s happening in and around Peachtree Corners. Check out the calendar for a full list of events.

Saturday and Sunday, October 16th and 17th

Check out the Johns Creek arts festival in the field across from the Atlanta Athletic Club. But it’s a whole lot more than yard art. They have live music, a kids’ zone, food, and adult beverages. Which I’m sure the artists appreciate because, as they say in Latin, in vino very-much-money-is-spent. (Also, where do people speak Latin? And is it easier than English?)

Saturday, October 16th

This is it. The Battle of the Unbeatens. UGA takes on Kentucky, and Town Center is showing it on the big screen. Kickoff is at 3:30pm.

I would say that Kentucky has as much claim to the number one ranking as UGA, but who am I kidding? I mean, they’re undefeated too. But then I remember it’s Kentucky. And this is football, not basketball. And then I think of bourbon. And then I no longer care about Kentucky football. Or basketball.

Go dogs. I mean Dawgs. Because ENGLISH.

Saturday, October 23rd

Town Center is hosting a special Sports on the Screen – Deluxe Edition. It starts at noon and features a ninja warrior-style obstacle course for the kiddos. They haven’t announced what games they’ll be showing just yet. But if I had guess, the noon slot probably belongs to Georgia Tech. They ALWAYS play at noon. Because they’re not exactly prime time material.

(There. Now we’re even, dogs. Dawgs.)

Also on the 23rd, Peachtree Farms is hosting its groundbreaking party called Tailgate for Tomatoes. Check out the pumpkin patch, eat some free hot dogs, and enter the pumpkin carving contest. This great nonprofit is still looking for event sponsors, so give them a call!

Friday and Saturday, October 22nd and 23rd

Corners Fine Wine & Spirits is hostin’ Tailgatin’ on the Turf. Think beer, wine, and cocktails combined with cornhole, beer pon’, and other yard games. And if you’re wonderin’ why they left off the “g” and used an apostrophe instead, it’s because this is American ENGLISH. The rules are impossible to keep up with. So we just make up our own.

There are a lot more events on the calendar. And I’d love to write about them, but I don’t think I can hold your attention much longer.

Next week’s issue will be a big one since we’ll be covering Halloween weekend. So if you know of any festivities I should feature, hit reply and send it my way.

Fair warning: There will probably be lots of terrible Halloween references involving words like “spooktacular.”

See ya next week!
