No More Flies. Please!

For the Week of September 12, 2021

Happy Thursday, PTC friends and family!

As you may have noticed, the newsletter didn’t go out last week. There’s been a lot weighing on the PTCW staff (i.e. me) lately. Like many of you, I sometimes struggle to make sense of what’s going on in this world we live in.

So after a week of reflection, I decided I can’t keep this all inside any longer. I figure there’s no better place than right here in this newsletter to get this off my chest. To discuss the issue that stirs up more hate and anger than anything else. The issue that TRIGGERS me like no other.

Houseflies.

Seriously? Where did they all come from? With their hairy bodies and big, beady eyes which allow them to process movement seven times faster than humans so they see my hand in slow motion and easily escape as I try to prematurely end their already short lives?

That may be my best run-on sentence to date. And thanks for the info, Wikipedia.

Most importantly: Why did they choose Peachtree Corners to host their annual global pilgrimage?

Feel free to reply with scientific data or conspiracy theories.

In the meantime, I wrote some new lyrics to one of the best reggae-fusion-alternative-pop songs of the ‘90s.

[Sung to the tune of “Fly” by Sugar Ray.]

All around the house, yeah they swarm around me

Who left the door wide open?

I take out the trash, and they’re all that I see

Every one I can, I swat them, God rest their souls.

I just hate houseflies

You took over our city, yeah

You took over our city, yeah

I just hate houseflies

You took over our city, yeah

You took over our city, yeah

The best part of fall? No houseflies.

Now onto this week’s events!

Peachtree Corners Events

Here’s what’s happening in and around Peachtree Corners. Check out the calendar for a full list of events.

Saturday, September 11th

First and foremost, it’s the 20th anniversary of the most horrific day of my 42-year life. The City of Norcross is hosting a short 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Betty Mauldin Park. Nothing witty or funny to say.

After that, the 2021 Atlanta British Car Fayre kicks off in Historic Downtown Norcross. I’ve never seen the word “fayre.” I can only guess it refers to a collection of cars that break down all the time and cost a small fortune to repair.

Also, a new event called Artisan Row kicks off at the forum. Do your part and stick it to The Amazon.

And to wrap up the long day, enjoy some local rock and roll from The Sundogs at the Town Green. The band was formed in the early 2000’s while drinking $4 Natty Light pitchers at Moondog’s and brainstorming cool band names.

Monday Through Friday

Peruse the long list on ongoing yoga classes and brewery jam sessions on the calendar.

Saturday, September 18th

You may want to sit down for this one. lululemon at The Forum is celebrating it’s 1-year anniversary as a “pop-up” shop. There will be an official ceremony to permanently remove “pop-up” from its name. No mention of discounts, of course. And I don’t care about the free yoga class, either. JUST TELL ME WHAT’S IN THE FREE SWAG BAG ALREADY!

2021 Peachtree Corners Festival

Friday and Saturday, September 18th and 19th

After a short hiatus, the annual Peachtree Corners Festival makes its return to the Town Green on Friday and Saturday. Here’s a word from the event organizer:

Join us for the 10th Annual Peachtree Corners Festival, September 18 and 19, 2021! The festival will be held at the Peachtree Corners Town Center, 5140 Town Center Blvd., across from The Forum.

The festival kicks off on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 10 am to 9 pm and continues on Sunday, September 19 from noon to 5 pm. This year there will be lots of local arts and crafts vendors, plenty of yummy food, delightful musical entertainment, stunning car show and free parking at designated areas. For more information, please check out the website at peachtreecornersfestival.com.

The Peachtree Corners Festival was created to raise funds for the beautification of the newest city in Gwinnett County and to enhance education as well as to provide the citizens of Peachtree Corners with wholesome fun and entertainment.

Fewer weeknight events. More weekend events.

And NO MORE FLIES!

See y’all next week.

Never forget.
